Teaching Practice Phase 1 (week 2 )

In the second week of my teaching practice, I witnessed a remarkable transformation in my students' engagement levels. Each activity lesson plan was met with enthusiasm, as the students eagerly participated and collaborated with one another. Their interactions were lively, and it was clear that they not only understood the language well but also enjoyed using it in a meaningful context. This level of involvement reinforced my belief in the effectiveness of hands-on learning experiences that promote both language skills and critical thinking. What struck me most was the students' insatiable curiosity. They approached each task with a genuine desire to explore and understand, often asking insightful questions that sparked further discussion. This eagerness to learn not only created a dynamic classroom atmosphere but also highlighted the importance of fostering a supportive environment where students feel comfortable expressing themselves. As I reflected on this week, I felt ins...

Teaching practice Phase 1 ( Week 1)

The first day of my teaching practice was notably warm and welcoming. The teachers at the school were bustling to complete their portions in preparation for the Onam exams, creating a sense of urgency and energy in the environment. Despite the rush, everyone was supportive and helpful, which made me feel comfortable as I settled into my role. The students were enthusiastic and engaged in their classes and activities, demonstrating a keen interest in learning and contributing actively. On the second day, the school held an assembly where oaths were taken for the student leaders. This event was a significant part of the school’s routine and provided me with insight into the school’s culture and student governance. Observing the ceremony gave me a better understanding of how leadership roles are fostered and respected within the school community. It also allowed me to see how such events can impact student motivation and school spirit. As part of my role, I have been handling activit...

Criticism class reflection

As part of the B Ed curriculum, fourteen students from the English department at BNVCTE participated in a criticism class on two days, June 26, 2024 (Wednesday) and June 21, 2024 (Thursday). The lessons covered were from both the 8th and 9th grades, and models of teaching were also included. Common mistakes observed during the class included a lack of clarity and confusion among students. Additionally, there was insufficient interaction with the class. Criticism classes are valuable for evaluating teaching methods, learning materials, and theories. They help students develop the ability to critique and reflect on various aspects of teaching, including instructional strategies and resources. Through these classes, students learn to assess the effectiveness of different approaches, identify strengths and weaknesses, and apply critical thinking to enhance their own teaching practices. These sessions reveal insights into one's capacity and approach while teaching and highlight areas...

Field trip to Kerala Legislative Assembly

Image
Field visit to KLIBF was a great experience. Student teachers got a chance to understand and learn how to organise and plan events. We also got chance to get to know different publishers, writers and also got chance to view book release and talks by various writers. The field trip to the Kerala Legislative International Book Festival was an enriching experience that broadened my understanding of both literature and governance. As we navigated through the vibrant displays of books from diverse cultures and genres, I was struck by the power of literature to transcend boundaries and unite people through shared stories and knowledge. Moreover, witnessing the event within the legislative context underscored the importance of literacy and education in shaping informed citizens and effective governance. This experience not only deepened my appreciation for literature but also highlighted the vital role of institutions like the legislative assembly in promoting cultural exchange and intel...

Field trip to Kerala arts and craft village

As part of B Ed curriculum, we students of BNV College of Teacher Education, Thiruvalla went on a field trip to Kerala Arts and Craft village, Vellar. The field trip to Kerala Arts and Craft Village, Vellar, was a profoundly educational experience for us as B.Ed. students. It provided a firsthand exploration of Kerala's rich artistic traditions and cultural heritage, allowing us to witness skilled artisans practicing their craft with dedication and precision. Observing techniques such as wood carving, mural painting, and pottery not only deepened our understanding of these art forms but also highlighted their importance in cultural identity and community development. Engaging with artisans and learning about their challenges underscored the need for supporting local craftsmanship and integrating cultural literacy into educational practices. This experience has equipped us with invaluable insights and a renewed commitment to incorporating arts education that honors and preserves ou...

Horegallu ( video script )

Image
Participating in video scripting as part of our B.Ed program at BNV College of Teacher Education was a transformative experience for our English optional class. Divided into two groups, our team—comprising Neena, Sruthi, Aparna, Reshma, Arathy, and Basith—worked on adapting Sudha Murthy's story "Horegallu" into a video format. This project highlighted the importance of integrating multimedia into the classroom, demonstrating how effective storytelling can bridge gaps and create a dynamic, engaging learning environment. Reflecting on this experience, we recognize that innovation and imagination are crucial, as stepping beyond traditional roles allowed us to appreciate the story's complexity and enhance our educational practices.
